Week 2: Hard Times

Hard Times, also known as Hard Times Come Again No More, is another one of our favorites we recorded on Trusting You. Once again, we have Larry Skrant to thank for introducing us to this song we both instantly fell in love with. When he encouraged us to record it we were both happy to oblige.

It was written by Stephen Foster and though first published in 1854 the lyrics are still relevant to this day. From the opening a capella notes to the closing instrumental you can hear the desperate plea to remember those less fortunate than ourselves. Much of this is due to our producer, Jeff Polen, for the beautiful way he orchestrated the direction of the song and the instruments he used.

We were surprised at how many well known artists had recorded ‘Hard Times Come Again No More’. Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, and Bruce Springsteen to name a few.

Philippians 2:4 “Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.”

Hard Times

Let us pause in life's pleasures and count its many tears

While we all sup sorrow with the poor

There's a song that will linger forever in our ears

Oh hard times come again no more.

‘Tis the song the sign of the weary

Hard times hard times come again no more.

Many days have you lingered around my cabin

door, Oh hard times come again no more.

While we seek mirth & beauty & music light & gay

There are frail forms standing at the door

Through their voices are silent their pleading looks will say

Oh hard times come again no more.

Tis the song the sign of the weary

Hard times hard times come again no more.

Many days have you lingered around my cabin door

Oh hard times come again no more.
